Live Performance Line-Up
Welcome to the Childhood Neighborhood

You know that movie that your sibling or cousin or best friend insisted you watch as a kid because you're 8-12 years old and it's so relatable and relevant to how life actually is at that very point in time? That was how we felt about these films in the 90s, so 2000s babies you're going to have to compile your own fricken list of films that made you want to stay home from school on a snowy day and eat a grilled cheese and tomato soup.

As an American citizen who is obsessed with World War II lore yet completely against war in general, my best medicine, as always, is distraction with a lesson. There are many fantastic films depicting the ugliness of, but I did my best to pick three that focus on three different views of the subject: Horror, Humor, and Heart. Make no mistake, there is no humor included in this subject, but as one incredible comic had to remind us sometimes "laughing at/with the pain" makes things a little more digestible (no offense, Kevin). "Overlord" puts war in a horror scene that zombie fans, such as myself, will absolutely adore. There are excellent performances all across the and some top-notch Grade A zombies in this one (Oh, did I also mention one of the best horror directors/producers in the game? Thanks for this one, J.J. Abrams). "Jojo Rabbit" brings an adorable pre-teen to the battlefront (yes, you read that correctly), who's a Hitler superfan and needs a major wake-up call from a Jewish bad-ass. Taika Waititi brings us a hilarious yet touching look at what it took to be a Nazi soldier in training and what it took to bring that f**ker down! (Something a lot of world leaders could learn from). Lastly, "Blitz," featuring last month's highlighted actress Saoirse Ronan, gives a view from the mother's side. Having to send her little boy away during World War II for safety, this mother's quest for her missing son is a tale of perseverance and great survival skills on her son's behalf.
Streaming Picks
Zero Day
Netflix

Who doesn't love a little trickery of the mind when it comes to politics? This political mind twist has Angela Bassett running the United States (as did Mission Impossible....hmm is reality trying to tell us something :-/ *Bassett for Pres 28'*) with the help of her right hand Robert DeNiro. They are trying to pin-point a major cyber attack against the United States but that doesn't come without it's share of twists, turns and major memory mash-ups. This one got mixed reviews but I loved it and I actually wouldn't hate seeing these 2 and Mark Cuban run the country in real life. Angela Bassett really does seem like the type of President who wouldn't think twice about taking out the enemy and going on about her day with no remorse.
His 3 Daughters
Netflix

Let me tell you, there are few actors and actresses who can pull off what these 3 did in this film and it truly needs to be broken down for it's greatness. 1- My first time ever seeing Natasha play a serious role and she nailed it x10. Second - My alter ego is Elizabeth Olsen in any role she plays. 3rd- Carrie Coon may be the stand out of the entire film. Lastly - to go an entire movie with simply dialogue and emotion/acting skill and still have the film be interesting and believable is almost impossible. No special effects, camera tricks, fancy makeup or lighting but simple raw talent and story. This one takes some focus and concentration ,but as stated above, all 3 actresses need major kudos, recognition and flowers for this fantastic performance. Seriously well done ladies.
The Four Seasons
Netflix

Whoever made this up hit it right on the nose; 3 things in life are certain: Death,Taxes and Coleman Domingo is going to throw that shit on (not just fashion-wise but a great performance as well). As per usual, Tina Fey delivers the goods in an excellent series adaptation of friends and getting the hell away. This group of married friends takes 4 trips in a year to different weather appropriate locations and learn the meaning of life through their experiences. Lots of love, laughs and great relatable moments this one is a top pick and I can't wait for another season.
Alien Earth
Hulu

First of all this poster and tag line creator needs a raise and promotion like yesterday. 80s babies have been rejoicing that one of our alien children has grown up and made the approval of the 2020 generation with Romulus. Pairing that win with a successful (and what looks to be bad ass) tv series will put this horror franchise in the books with some of it's veteran brothers and sisters. Evil Dead & It are among a rare breed of horror delights who managed to get it right with fans through film and television so let's see if Alien Earth can allow this franchise to take the same mantel.
All's Fair
Hulu / FX

Dammit Ryan and Kim why would you wait so long to give me this! This trailer was absolute fire and this cast just lights up the entire package. I really only needed Sarah Paulson and Teyana Taylor to call it a winner but I must say this entire cast is a complete gem and Ryan Murphy could make a show about dog sh*t and it would win an Emmy. This is likely a top pick in streams for me and I'm All In for Alls Fair.
Upcoming/Current Movie Picks
The Naked Gun
August 2025

Honestly, only Seth McFarlane could think of one of the greatest comedy movies to reboot and make it look just as amazingly ridiculous as the original. Any Leslie Nielsen fan will tell you that this and Airplane was the epitome of comedy film making (along with anything Mel Brooks was associated with). The O.J. reference and Seth's fixation with tough guy Liam Neeson already anoints this one as Ashley worthy. This is absolutely one we DID ask Hollywood for!
Tron Ares
*Top Pick* - IMAX / Screen-X / 4DX worthy

That opening sequence was entirely to clean for me not to pick this one. I remembering going to see the first Tron and for the first time ever watching a film, feeling like I was on acid or speed or whatever drug makes you feel like you're not on this planet. Evan Peters puts this one on top pick watch along with that opening scene and the entire trailer as a whole. Now I will say, Jared Leto is typically a major hit or a major miss in many of his roles so let's hope this one airs on the upside but it would be difficult for him to not win with this stellar cycle ride.
Smurfs
July 2025

Between the Smurfs & the Snorkels I don't know which love-able little creature I loved more. Childhood feel goods are all the way activated for this movie and Rihanna as Smurfette seals the deal for an adorable adventure this summer.
Freakier Friday
August 2025

Another High school Lindsay Lohan treasure from the vault. This time I get to take my nieces to enjoy a different generational mix-up with this adorable take on a Disney classic.
Weapons
August 2025

More awards from the originality pool times 100 and confusion plays a beautiful role in this trailer. Julia Garner is having a pretty strong year for me and this movie is no exception. Beyond these kids walking out of the house in the middle of the night, I know nothing and that spikes my interest highly.

Jordan Peele is bbbbaaaccckkkk and this one is a highlighted welcome back gift to his fans. Sports fans have many fantastic films in their line-up including Remember the Titans, He Got Game and SpaceJam. The one thing they haven't had in their roster yet is Ashley's favorite genre; Psychological Horror. Marlon Wayans gives what looks like a chillingly great performance and along with Sinners, I think we have some serious Oscar contenders with these 2 films. Make me proud boys!
