Back In Action: New Seasons

Congrats to these Back in Action Picks for hitting #1 paired with a Certified Fresh Rating.
Double Feature
The Passion of the Christ

Eden

April comes as it does every year but nothing about the time of worship and remembrance changes. The Passion of the Christ shows the most pivotal moments in Jesus crucifixion in the rawest way possible for true meaning and impact. The moments of betrayal and doubt cloud even the strongest of man in this powerful story of the son of God's last days on earth (before his return). This one is difficult for me to watch as it would be for any person of empathy and faith for how our savior was treated by those whom he was sent here to save. An important message is certain to be resonated after experiencing this monumental film. Taking it back a little further in time I deeply loved this modern day depiction of the story of Adam and Eve. Ron Howard brought us a true story version of a couple who decided to start their own 'colony' of life if you will on a remote Island during the war and it does have many similarities to the story of Eden from the bible. It shows how humanity operates when all they have is the land, God and each other. It shows the resilience of man but also the ways that evil can creep into the mind to pit man against his brother and woman against her sister. Both films bring us a modern take on impactful biblical stories.

Small Island.... Big Secrets

The Lost Bus
Apple TV+

Not in my scariest dreams did I think a film about a bus would be so intense, but then again, Matthew almost never does a subtle project. This movie was amazing and heartwarming all in the same viewing experience. It presented one man's story and perspective on the terrible brush fires that took place in early 2025, which occasionally occur when the heat gets out of control in the Hollywood Hills of the West Coast. The bravery and sacrifice he endures during this tragic set of events, along with the ability to work together with America's best heroes—teachers—embodies the kind of humanity that is desperately needed in today's world.
Gerald's Game
Netflix

Fair warning: This one is just as raunchy as it is disturbing but I would expect nothing less from the masters of horror/psychology. As usual, Mike Flanagan/Stephen King brings us a chain of insane events and take foreplay to a dangerous place with this one. His usual cast of exceptional actors are included in this seduction of survival and Carla gives a per usual memorable performance.
The Copenhagen Test
Peacock

A well organized mental hack is the best way to describe this cyber thriller. All my Mr Robot fans should enjoy this awesome walk down memory lane for a secret sleeper agent who needs to figure out who he is, where he came from and how he ended up in the predicament we find him in from the beginning.
The Five Star Weekend
Peacock

This one feels like the complete opposite of Imperfect Women for all the most wholesome reasons. We saw the insider peek of women who can love each other but because of basic human flaw can deceive one another but this looks to be on the other side of the spectrum. A group of friends who genuinely love being around their friend, wants to help her heal and want to enjoy serenity in all the best that mother nature has to offer.
Spider-Noir
Prime Video

This 1930's Dick Tracy investigator series was exactly the warm-up I needed before Brand New Day drops. Do yourself the justice of watching at least the first half or second half in the black and white format if you want that true authentic feel. The fact that they gave you an option to toggle between both formats was absolutely brilliant and the series itself felt so appropriately noir. Well done on this one team, certainly a series I didn't know I needed but highly enjoyed.
Elle
Prime Video

This series will produce endorphins for me and many other Legally Blonde lovers. Endorphins will make us happy. Happy people will want this and more seasons (and maybe another film with Reese Witherspoons daughter at the helm). We can see how this goes though.... haha

May 2026

We need to talk about what spawned this fantastic indie-esque film. There was this big mystery from tik-tok about this guy who stumbled into an empty mall that looked identical to an active mall that exists today. That seems pretty normal right? except the footage was allegedly happening live (which he somehow proved) and in the same time-frame he was filming this empty ghost-town mall location other people were in that same mall/space at the same time however it was active and full of people/activity. People were baffled and wondering if this guy stepped into an active worm-hole/ other dimension on earth and he had live footage of it. Now I'm not sure if this film is going to capture that bizarre occurrence or if it will correlate at all but the science nerd that lives in me cannot wait to see how this creepy based on a true event plays out.
The Mandalorian & Grogu
May 2026
I-MAX / 4DX / Screen-X Worthy

As an OG Baby Yoda (aka Grogu) fan this movie is WAY overdue but still somehow properly placed on the timeline. I don't know if there is a human being out right now working harder than Pedro Pascal's agent but if so I'd like to meet them. More than just wanting to see this film I will absolutely be taking my entire family (my one niece was baby grogu in human form when she was little) and further more anything less than I-Max or 4dx is an embarrassment to cinema for this one.
Scary Movie 6
June 2026

The roast masters are back along with Cindy and all of our favorite horror movie weirdo's. This was one of my absolute favorite spoof franchises and I'd be lying if I said I wasn't excited for a new installment of horror spoofs. There is no lack of material as there have been some exceptional films in the hiatus months. Shawn and Marlon we are ready to be highly entertained and extremely offended.
Michael
I-MAX / Screen-X Worthy
April 2026

Not sure I need an entire paragraph for this one but knowing me expressing my sentiments towards this film/artist I'll get there unknowingly. When Michael passed I remember being utterly depressed for like 2 months+ and even still to this day this man's legacy and overall presence is immeasurable. I can't even imagine how much I will be singing along to this film...hell they may even need to do one of those sing-a-long screenings for this one but I am so seated for this. There are a few dreams cameos I would love to see with Chris Tucker being one of them and if they show some real footage along side the film of Mike I know it's going to crush me. This one is going to be huge and I mean HUGE for cinema and the Jackson family.
Disclosure Day
June 2026

I can make this short and sweet.... Trust me, this is NOT just an "Alien Movie". Pay close Attention.
Masters of the Universe
June 2026 *IMAX/4DX Pick*

This one started as a pick for my brother who played with He-man action figures just like any normal little boy. What shifted and peaked my interest was actually Skeletor's fight scene with He-man in this trailer....it raised an eyebrow for me. That fight in itself outside of this looking like an iMax/4DX dream film caught my attention and let's hope the Leto curse doesn't follow him in this film because Jared is actually an exceptional actor but sometimes IDK man. Regardless this one is a top summer film pick and even if the critics don't like it, i'll be paying more attention to what the people have to say about this 80's dream remake.
In the Hand of Dante
June 2026

This film is another adaptation from an exceptional book but I love the material they are pulling from and the artful way they chose to depict it. The cast goes without saying is fantastic but even from the trailer I love how 2 things are happening at once; The black and white to color contrast as well as switching from what seems to be a modern version and the same cast in a biblical older version. I'm interested in seeing how those 2 pieces come together to help illustrate the story.
